Charles “Charlie” Smith, age 80 of Ottawa Lake, Michigan passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018. Charlie was born on February 20, 1938 in Canfield, Ohio to C. Earle and Leona (Schaffer) Smith. Charlie was employed with OI for 38 years.
He was married to his loving wife, Vivian for 59 years and enjoyed spending his retirement years with his family. Daily you would find him with his friends at the breakfast club at McDonald’s in Lambertville sharing the stories for the day. He truly enjoyed farming with his sons. In the spring, you would see him doing the Planting and in the fall in the Combine doing the harvesting. Between the spring and fall, you would see him driving one of his classic cars to the local classic car shows. He collected many and was very proud to give one to each of his children. He was a great handyman for his daughter.
The family would like to thank the 4th floor of Flower Hospital for their care and support. He was preceded in death by his parents C. Earle and Leona Smith, his brother, Donald Smith and his grandson, Tyler Earle. Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, Vivian Smith, his sister Barbara (Tom) Moran; children, Charles (Annette) Smith, Denise (Dean) Lennard, Steve (Kristin) Smith, Henry (Tammy) Smith, Eric (Jodie) Smith; grandchildren, Kaitlin, Chuckie, Zac, Mollie, Ayden, Ashlee (Justin), Natalie, Katie, Henry, Sienna and Josh; great-grandchildren, Ryder and Shelbee.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm, Sunday, November 18, 2018, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, November 19, 2018. Interment will follow at Whiteford Union Cemetery. Pastor Rick Deisler, officiating.
